By booking a vehicle with Street Trade Car Rental, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the following terms and conditions. These terms govern all rental agreements between Street Trade Car Rental ("we", "us", "the Company") and the renter ("you", "the customer").
1. Eligibility Requirements
- You must hold a valid South African driver's licence for the vehicle category rented.
- You must be 21 years of age or older at the time of rental.
- A valid South African ID or passport must be presented at vehicle handover.
- The driver's licence must not be expired, provisional, or under suspension.
- Foreign nationals must hold an International Driver's Permit in addition to their home country licence.
2. Booking & Confirmation
- A booking request submitted online does not constitute a confirmed reservation until a Street Trade representative has contacted you and a deposit has been received.
- Availability is subject to change until the deposit is paid.
- Street Trade reserves the right to decline any booking at its discretion.
- You will receive confirmation of your booking via phone or WhatsApp from our representative.
3. Deposits
- A refundable security deposit is required per vehicle prior to handover.
- The deposit amount varies per vehicle as displayed on our Fleet page.
- The deposit is held for the duration of the rental and returned upon collection of the vehicle in its original condition.
- Deposits may be withheld or partially forfeited in cases of damage, traffic fines incurred during the rental period, late return, or any breach of these terms.
- Airport pick-up and drop-off fees (R250 each) are non-refundable service fees and are not part of the vehicle deposit.
4. Rental Rates & Payment
- Car hire rates are charged per day as displayed on our Fleet page.
- The daily rate is settled separately via EFT prior to or at vehicle delivery.
- A "day" constitutes a 24-hour period from the time of handover.
- Hire for 10 consecutive days and the 11th day is provided free of charge. This offer applies to a single uninterrupted rental period only.
- Street Trade reserves the right to update rates at any time. Confirmed bookings will honour the rate agreed at the time of confirmation.
5. Vehicle Use
- All vehicles must be used lawfully and in accordance with South African traffic laws.
- Vehicles may not be used for racing, off-road driving, or any illegal activity.
- Vehicles may not be driven outside of South Africa without prior written consent from Street Trade.
- Only the named renter is permitted to drive the vehicle unless an additional authorised driver has been agreed in writing.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in all vehicles. A cleaning fee of R500 minimum will be charged for violation.
- Pets are not permitted in vehicles without prior written approval.
6. Mileage
- All rentals include unlimited mileage at no additional cost.
- No mileage surcharges will be applied regardless of distance driven.
7. Fuel Policy
- Vehicles are delivered with a full tank of fuel.
- Vehicles must be returned with a full tank of fuel.
- If returned with less fuel than at handover, the cost of refuelling plus an R150 administration fee will be deducted from the deposit.
8. Damage & Liability
- The renter is fully liable for any damage caused to the vehicle during the rental period, including windscreen, tyres, underbody, and interior damage.
- All damage must be reported to Street Trade immediately.
- Street Trade conducts a pre-handover inspection. Any new damage found on return will be assessed and costs deducted from the deposit or invoiced separately.
- Street Trade is not responsible for any personal belongings left in the vehicle.
9. Breakdown & Accidents
- In the event of a mechanical breakdown, contact Street Trade immediately on +27 65 718 7081.
- In the event of an accident, the renter must obtain a police report (CAS number) and notify Street Trade within 24 hours.
- Do not admit liability or sign any documents on behalf of Street Trade at the scene of an accident.
- Street Trade will not be held responsible for costs arising from accidents caused by renter negligence.
10. Late Returns
- Late returns must be communicated to Street Trade at least 2 hours in advance.
- Returns more than 2 hours late will be charged an additional day's hire rate.
- Failure to return the vehicle without communication may result in the vehicle being reported stolen.
11. Traffic Fines
- The renter is responsible for all traffic fines, toll fees, and infringements incurred during the rental period.
- Any fines received after vehicle return will be forwarded to the renter for payment, plus an R200 administration fee.
12. Delivery & Collection
- Street Trade delivers and collects vehicles within Johannesburg and surrounding areas.
- Airport pick-up and drop-off services are available for an additional fee of R250 per trip (non-refundable).
- Delivery times are agreed at booking confirmation. Street Trade is not liable for delays caused by traffic or circumstances beyond its control.
13. Governing Law
These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

Refund
Policy

This policy explains how Street Trade Car Rental handles deposits, cancellations, and refunds. Please read this carefully before making a booking.
1. Vehicle Security Deposit
- The security deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition as at handover, on time, with a full tank of fuel, and with no outstanding fines or liabilities.
- Refunds are processed within 3–5 business days of vehicle collection, via EFT to the renter's South African bank account.
- Proof of banking details may be required before processing the refund.
2. Deposit Deductions
The following may result in partial or full forfeiture of the deposit:
- Damage to the vehicle (interior or exterior) not present at handover
- Vehicle returned with less than a full tank of fuel
- Traffic fines or toll fees incurred during the rental period
- Late return without prior agreement
- Excessive cleaning required (smoking, pet odours, severe soiling)
- Loss of keys or vehicle accessories
Street Trade will provide an itemised breakdown of any deductions.
3. Airport Service Fees
- Airport pick-up and drop-off fees (R250 per trip) are non-refundable once the service has been confirmed and scheduled, regardless of cancellation.
- These are service fees, not deposits, and are not subject to refund under any circumstance.
4. Cancellations
- More than 48 hours before rental start: Full deposit refund, less any non-refundable airport service fees already paid.
- 24–48 hours before rental start: 50% of the vehicle deposit refunded.
- Less than 24 hours before rental start: No refund on the deposit. This covers administrative and operational costs incurred.
- Cancellations must be communicated in writing via WhatsApp or email to info@streettrade.co.za.
5. Early Returns
- If a vehicle is returned early, the hire rate for days already paid will not be refunded unless agreed in writing with Street Trade at time of booking.
- Early returns must be communicated at least 12 hours in advance.
6. Cancellation by Street Trade
- In the unlikely event that Street Trade cancels a confirmed booking, a full deposit refund will be processed within 3 business days.
- Street Trade will make reasonable efforts to provide an alternative vehicle of equal or greater value.

- Sending service-related communications (not unsolicited marketing)
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information on the following legal bases under POPIA:
- Contractual necessity: To fulfil the rental agreement with you
- Legal obligation: To comply with applicable South African laws
- Legitimate interest: To operate our business safely and effectively
- Consent: Where you have given explicit consent (e.g. marketing communications)
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information with:
- Payment processors: Zapper, for deposit and payment processing
- Fleet management: Cartrack, for vehicle tracking and booking management
- Legal authorities: Where required by law (e.g. traffic fine issuing authorities)
- Service providers: IT and website hosting providers who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements
All third parties are required to handle your data in accordance with POPIA.
6. Data Retention
- Booking records are retained for a minimum of 5 years for legal and financial compliance purposes.
- Website usage data is retained for up to 12 months.
- Communication records (WhatsApp/email) are retained for 3 years after the last interaction.
- After the retention period, data is securely deleted or anonymised.
7. Your Rights Under POPIA
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Right to correction: Request that inaccurate information be corrected
- Right to deletion: Request deletion of your data where no legal obligation requires us to retain it
